Pequod's Pizza Chicago, IL

The Good :

Great pan (deep dish) pizza for those who love a full bite in their slice. Fresh ingredients. Caramelized and crispy crust (amazing) and great service.

The Bad :

Their salads are great. I love the ranch. I don’t love the inconsistency of the salad materials(lettuce or whatever it is) that make the salad…sometimes great…sometimes a chore.

A top rated, pan pizza place (not to be confused with deep dish) in Lincoln Park that delivers some of the best pizza in town. Period.

Simple standard menu of typical options for a traditional CHICAGO pizza place. Appetizers, salads, pizza, pasta and sandwiches along with a healthy selection of options for drinks. They make their own ranch in house and it is delicious. Their house salad is a must each time I come here.

A couple things that I love about this place. First, It is almost deep dish but they call it “pan pizza”. I am probably going to be eviscerated by my comments but I am not a fan of traditional Chicago style deep dish pizza. It’s just too much for me. The sauce on top and everything else just doesn’t do it.

The difference here is found in a couple of different things. For one, they put the cheese on top of the crust and the sauce on top of the cheese which kind of seals off the crust from the sauce. This allows the crust to be crunchy and delicious and for there to be a great amount of meaty cheese and their marinara sauce. Second, because they cook the pizzas in a pan style, the cheese on the outer edges becomes caramelized. (You can see evidence of this on the pans themselves as they have been well worn and used). That caramelized cheese on the edge is my favorite part of the entire pizza. Delicious.

This isn’t a pizza that I think reheats well so be prepared to eat what you order or enjoy mushy leftovers. Of course, that’s not a problem for me because I am not a huge leftovers fan to begin with. But… don’t order this pizza to serve later thinking its going to be the same awesome crispy crust and flavorful ingredients or you’ll be saddened indeed.
